A 14 Day Natural, Historic and Cultural Experience

Day 1 – Transfer and Orientation

You are met at the airport, assisted through customs and transfer to hotel.  Orientation and Welcome dinner.  Overnight at hotel.

Day 2 – Full Day Accra City Tour

Depart on a full day Accra city tour.  Visit the Du Bois Centre for Pan Africanism, Makola Open Market, National Museum and Nkrumah Memorial Park.  Break for lunch.

After lunch drive to the Artist Alliance Gallery to see and  buy artifacts.  Meet the artist of the gallery, one of the famous in Africa.  Stopover at a traditional coffin shop to view a collection of traditional coffins which are in shapes related to people’s profession before their death. Your final stop is the Art and Craft Bazaar to for shopping. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 3 – Akwapim Scenic Tours

Drive 40kms to the Eastern Region, up the winding road through the Akuapem mountain range viewing en route a picturesque scene of nature’s beauty. You will visit the century old Aburi Botanical Gardens to tour its many lawns, herbs, flowers and lots more whilst enjoying the soothing effect of nature.

Depart at 9am after breakfast to Aburi Botanical Gardens driving through the University of Ghana, Legon.  The Garden was built by the British in the colonial times for the relaxation of officers.  See some trees planted by some leaders of the world.  Have lunch at the Garden restaurant.

Continue to Tetteh Quarshie’s Cocoa farm the first cocoa farm in Ghana and the Mampong Herbal Institute.

Depart for Awukugwa a town believed to be the birth place of Okomfo Anokye the Fetish Priest who conjured the golden stool of the Ashantis from the skies.

Return to hotel dinner and overnight.

Day 4 – Forts and Castles – The Slave Trade Revisited

This tour takes you 157kms west of the capital of the Central Region of Ghana to visit the famous and infamous Forts and Castles which dot its coastline, all of which are World Heritage Monuments. You will visit the hill top Fort St. Jago and imposing St. George’s castle in the historic town of Elmina to which Europeans firs came in 1471.

After breakfast, depart Accra at 8am, driving through many fishing village to Cape Coast / Elmina.  Visit Cape Coast and Elmina castles designated as world heritage monuments. Visit the Castles built in 1653 and 1482 respectively and have a chilling experience walking through the dungeons, the condemned cells, auction
halls and the door of no return of infamous slave castles.

Dinner and overnight – at Hotel.

Day 5 – Kakum National Park – Cape Coast

Experience the cool and exhilarating effect of a tropical forest 2hours drive from Accra in the Central Region. Take a nature walk into the Kakum Nature Reserve and fill your lungs with fresh on leaves and twigs on your journey of discovery into tropical ecology. Here there is the opportunity to discover fascinating exotic flora species and learn about their medicinal value and more.

Check out at 7am. Have breakfast and drive to Kakum Nature Park. Go on an adventurous trail, a comprehensive guided tour through one of the remaining vestiges of the rainforest.  Experience the exciting canopy walkway weaved on tropical trees, the first of it kind in Africa, and have a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the rainforest.

Kakum Park located in the coastal area of the central region of Ghana , covers an area of 375 square metre and established in 1992. It is one of the best known natural parks in Ghana

Lunch at Hans Cottage Botel restaurant and view crocodiles as you dine.

Depart for Kumasi the capital town of the Ashanti Region, stop en route at Assin Manso Slave river and go on some of the Slave Tracks.  Also visit the burial site for two slaves from the Diaspora who were reburied at the site.  Arrive at Kumasi for dinner and overnight at Sambra Hotel.

Day 6 – Kumasi City Tour and the Craft Villages

After breakfast depart your hotel at 8am to Tour Kumasi, including visits to Manhyia Palace Museum, Okomfo Anokye sword which even bulldozers cannot pull it out, Fort Museum and the Central Market. Lunch at Jofel.

After lunch continue to the craft villages of Ahwia for wood carving, Ntonso for tradtinal Adinkra cloth and Bonwire to observe the weaving or shop for Kente(traditional royal cloth)

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7 – Lake Bosomtwi / Mole

After breakfast drive out of Kumasi to Lake Bosomtwi, a quiet natural lake surrounded by forest.  The lake is sacred and the areas around the lake are rich animal and bird life.

Lunch at Paradise Lake resort.

Depart for Mole National Park, driving through one of the foodstuff commercial towns Techiman.  Stopover at Kintampo to view a fascinating Waterfalls. Continue to check in and dinner at Mole National Park.

Day 8 – Larabanga and Mole National Park

Early morning safari at Mole National Park, the biggest game reserve in Ghana. Later visit the Larabanga Mosque; a 13th century mosque, believed to be first built the Moorish traders, it is one of the holiest sites in Ghana.  The mystery surrounding the mosque has made it a distinctive façade widely photographed.  Also visit the Larabanga Mystery Stone a subject of splendid local legend.

Dinner and overnight at Mole.

Day 9 – Safari Tours – Tamale

Early morning guided tour of the Park to see elephants, antelopes, bucks, monkeys, crocodiles, and many species of birds.

Depart around 10am from Mole to Tamale the capital town of the Northern Region.  Go on walking tour of Tamale.  Visit the cultural centre, art and craft market and the smock market.

Dinner and overnight hotel.

Day 10 – Departure

Depart Tamale at 10am for a trip back to Accra passing by several scenic villages and town, stop en route at Kumasi for lunch.

Arrive at Accra and check in at hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 11 – Day of Leisure

Rest of the day is free for optional activities.

Day 12 – Accra – Akosombo – Accra

Drive out of Accra to Akosombo where we have the largest man-made lake in the world and the stone face Dam which supply water, and hydroelectric power to Ghana and the neighboring countries.

Arrive at Akosombo and go on a lifetime trip, cruising to the famous Dodi Islands on the Dodi Princess ferry. Enjoy the life entertainment on board. Sing to the golden sounds of live music band as they play lovely Ghanaian rhythm for your dancing feet and relaxation.

Day 13 – Accra – Akosombo – Accra

Full day shopping with break for lunch

Day 14 – Departure

Transfer to the Airport for departure
